Linde Roadster: Visibility, Safety, Optimum Performance

The Xi16 – Xi20 RP counterbalanced forklift trucks from Linde Material Handling combine the outstanding performance, safety, and ergonomics of the proven Xi series with maximum all-round visibility. The “R” in the type name stands for “Roadster” and indicates a clear view to the front. This is made possible by the characteristic Linde MH overhead tilt cylinders: these are connected to the side of the cab roof, which removes the need for the A-pillar. This means that the driver always has a full overview of the route, load, and working environment. The Roadster thus provides a huge boost to safety and efficiency, especially for demanding tasks such as loading or maneuvering in confined spaces. Just like the trucks in the classic Xi series, the Roadster sets new performance standards in the 1 to 2 metric ton load range. The advanced drive technology enables above-average lifting and lowering speeds even under heavy loads, making it demonstrably the most powerful truck in its segment. At the same time, the Roadster has been optimized for ergonomics and comfort. The permanently integrated Li-ION battery eliminates the need for a battery tray, which provides more space in the interior for the driver. The truck also features a larger and lower step, making it safer and easier than ever to get in and out of the truck. Thanks to the proven Linde combination steering axle, the 4-wheel forklift truck offers maximum agility and stability, which ensures optimal maneuverability. With a wide range of equipment options and chassis variants available, the truck can be optimally configured to meet any requirement.

The innovative control concept Linde Steer Control from Linde Material Handling replaces the traditional steering wheel with a mini steering wheel or joystick, increasing the truck’s ergonomics, precision and safety.

Linde Reverse Assist Radar

The Linde Reverse Assist Radar recognizes objects when reversing, warns the driver of collisions, and brakes the truck in an emergency until it comes to a standstill.

Seat Variants

A large selection of seats ensures additional comfort and active protection against postural injuries with functions like air suspension, lumbar support, seat heating, and seat ventilation.

Load Weight Indicator

This function shows the driver the current load weight on the display.

Multifunction Display

In addition to truck information, the 7-inch screen can also for example show such things as the Linde Safety Pilot display, or images from the mast or reversing cameras. The screen layout and displays can be individually customized.

Safety

With their focus on the best-possible all-round visibility, the Xi16 – Xi20 RP trucks set new standards in terms of work safety. Removing the A-pillar has given the operator a better view to the front and an optimum overview of their working area. This is a key benefit in terms of safety, especially in areas with high volumes of forklift or pedestrian traffic. Particularly when combined with the optional Linde Steer Control, the removal of the A-pillar allows a completely unrestricted and unrivaled view to the front. Narrow cross struts in the protective roof or an optional armored glass roof further optimize visibility and provide an unrestricted overhead view when stacking at higher levels. Design details such as the truck’s low center of gravity and the overhead tilt cylinders guarantee the highest possible level of stability even at maximum lifting heights. The sturdy roof construction also offers outstanding protection against falling objects. An electronically monitored seat belt buckle and automatic parking brake offer the driver optimum protection. In addition to this, there are also safety assistants fitted as standard. Linde Curve Assist automatically regulates the driving speed on bends. Linde Load Assist restricts mast tilt and lifting movements depending on the load weight and lifting height to prevent tipping accidents.

Ergonomics

Thanks to the optimized visibility of the Xi16 – Xi20 RP, drivers no longer need to constantly look around the A-pillar. This also allows them to maintain a relaxed sitting posture while maneuvering, which takes the strain off their back and neck. By eliminating the need for a classic battery tray, the integrated Li-ION battery also maximizes the available space in the interior. The result is more head clearance, more generous legroom, and optimized entry with a wider and lower step. The driver’s cab also impresses with a full-graphic 3.5-inch display and ergonomically positioned controls. The innovative Linde Steer Control operating concept is available as an option, with a joystick or mini-wheel in the armrest replacing the conventional steering wheel. The combination of dual pedal control and Linde Load Control ensures a comfortable sitting position and intuitive truck control. The mast, drive axle, and steering axle are decoupled from the chassis using elastomer ring bearings to protect the operator from harmful human vibrations when driving over uneven ground. An extensive range of comfortable seats ensures fatigue-free and focused work.

As a Roadster version, the Xi16 – Xi20 RP trucks combine all the advantages of Linde’s proven Xi series with optimized all-round visibility. With travel speeds of up to 20 km/h and a lifting speed that exceeds the industry average by around 20 percent, these trucks are the productivity champions in their load class. Thanks to the perfect interplay of 90-volt technology, advanced synchronous reluctance motors, and sophisticated thermal management, they deliver consistently high performance even during the most intensive operation. The Linde combi-steering axle ensures optimum agility and stability. The optional on-board charger also enables straightforward opportunity charging in any location. Plus, the modern system architecture means the trucks can be seamlessly integrated into digital processes and makes remote maintenance straightforward.

Service

he Xi16 – Xi20 RP trucks impress thanks to their robust, low-wear design. Dust- and water-tight encapsulated electric motors plus maintenance-free components such as tilt cylinders and decoupling elements on the mast ensure a high level of operational availability and keep operating costs low. The modular design and easy-to-access service components significantly reduce maintenance and repair times. An overall inspection is only required after 1,000 operating hours, while the hydraulic oil and filter change are only required after 6,000 hours. To enable predictive maintenance and reduce the number of service calls required, wireless data transmission makes remote diagnostics possible.
