Linde Roadster: Maximum Visibility and Safety

The Xi14 – Xi20 R counterbalanced forklift trucks (three-wheel version) are based on the proven Xi series from Linde Material Handling and combine its outstanding performance, safety, and ergonomics with optimized all-round visibility. The “R” in the model name stands for “Roadster” and underlines the truck’s optimized view to the front. This is made possible by the overhead tilt cylinders, which have always been a key feature of Linde’s counterbalanced forklift trucks. The cab roof is connected to the side of the tilt cylinders, which removes the need for the A-pillar. This gives the driver a clear view of their route, load, and surroundings at all times, increasing safety and boosting handling performance at the same time, particularly when performing demanding tasks such as loading and unloading trucks and transporting goods, and when there is a high volume of pedestrian and forklift traffic. Just like the other trucks in the Xi series, the Roadster sets new performance standards in the 1 to 2 metric ton load range. The innovative drive technology enables above-average lifting and lowering speeds even under maximum load, and ensures efficient energy consumption at the same time. What’s more, the compact 3-wheel chassis with swivel-steering axle guarantees maximum maneuverability in confined spaces. The Roadster’s intelligent design underlines its focus on ergonomics and driver comfort. The permanently installed Li-ION battery makes additional space in the interior as no separate battery tray is required. The step is larger and lower than other models, making it easier to get in and out. With a wide range of equipment options and chassis variants available, the optimum configuration can be found for every requirement.

A panoramic roof made from armored glass provides a clear view overhead and reliably protects the driver against falling loads.

Linde Steer Control

The innovative control concept Linde Steer Control from Linde Material Handling replaces the traditional steering wheel with a mini steering wheel or joystick, increasing the truck’s ergonomics, precision and safety.

Linde Reverse Assist Radar

The Linde Reverse Assist Radar recognizes objects when reversing, warns the driver of collisions, and brakes the truck in an emergency until it comes to a standstill.

Seat Variants

A large selection of seats ensures additional comfort and active protection against postural injuries with functions like air suspension, lumbar support, seat heating, and seat ventilation.

Load Weight Indicator

This function shows the driver the current load weight on the display.

Multifunction Display

In addition to truck information, the 7-inch screen can also for example show such things as the Linde Safety Pilot display, or images from the mast or reversing cameras. The screen layout and displays can be individually customized.

Safety

Designed for optimal visibility, the Xi14 – Xi20 R trucks take safety to a new level. The removal of the A-pillar provides an even clearer view to the front and helps to reduce the risk of accidents and load damage. This particularly applies when working in confined spaces with pedestrian traffic, such as transporting goods in a warehouse. The elimination of the A-pillar enables an unrivaled view of the load and surroundings, particularly when combined with the optional Linde Steer Control concept. The protective roof structure with narrow cross struts or the optional armored glass roof also improve overhead visibility and provide a clear view of the goods when storing and retrieving in high shelving areas. What’s more, the sturdy roof structure offers outstanding protection against falling objects. Design features such as the truck’s low center of gravity and the overhead tilt cylinders ensure maximum stability, even at large lifting heights. Electronic belt buckle monitoring and the automatic parking brake ensure optimum driver safety. The trucks’ safety features are complemented by a range of standard assistance systems. Linde Load Assist prevents tipping accidents by adapting the mast tilt and lifting movement to the current load. Linde Curve Assist automatically regulates the speed when cornering.

Ergonomics

Designed for optimal visibility, the Xi14 – Xi20 R trucks ensure that the driver does not have to constantly look around the A-pillar when maneuvering. This allows them to maintain a comfortable, back- and neck-friendly sitting posture for more of their working time. Thanks to their integrated Li-ION battery, the trucks also offer more head clearance, significantly more legroom, and a wider, lower entry step. The driver’s cab features a full-graphic 3.5-inch display and user-friendly controls. The tried-and-tested operating concept consisting of dual-pedal control and Linde Load Control provides for intuitive control of the forklift truck. The trucks can be equipped with the optional innovative Linde Steer Control operating concept, whereby the conventional steering wheel is replaced by a joystick or a mini-wheel in the armrest. The mast and axles of the Xi14 – Xi20 R are decoupled from the chassis using elastomer ring bearings, which improves shock absorption and protects the driver from impacts and vibrations when driving on uneven surfaces. There is also a wide selection of comfortable seats available, so drivers can maintain a relaxed sitting position and focus on their work.

Handling

As a Roadster version, the Xi14 – Xi20 R trucks combine all the advantages of Linde’s proven Xi series with outstanding visibility. The combination of 90-volt technology, synchronous reluctance motors, and intelligent thermal management ensures that the trucks deliver full performance at all times, even during continuous use in multi-shift operation. With maximum speeds of up to 20 km/h and lifting speeds around 20 percent higher than the industry average, the Xi14 – Xi20 R trucks are an absolute guarantee of productivity. As a three-wheel version with a swivel axle, the trucks offer maximum maneuverability, and are therefore particularly well suited to demanding applications in confined spaces. The robust design also allows for occasional outdoor use. Thanks to modern system architecture, the forklift trucks can be seamlessly integrated into digital processes and maintained remotely. An optional on-board charger also enables fast opportunity charging in any location.

Service

The Xi14 – Xi20 R trucks were developed in line with the design-to-service principle and impress thanks to their robust, low-wear construction. Dust- and water-tight encapsulated electric motors plus maintenance-free components such as tilt cylinders and decoupling elements on the mast ensure a high level of operational availability with low operating costs. An overall inspection is only required after 1,000 operating hours, and the hydraulic oil and filter change only after 6,000 operating hours. The modular design and easy-to-access service components significantly reduce maintenance and repair times. Wireless data transfer enables remote diagnostics, which allows for predictive maintenance and reduces the number of service calls.
