To make an appropriate decision, several key issues need to be examined, including:

Material properties: Is the roll material hard or soft?
Geometric stability: Can the roll maintain its position on a flat surface?
Core Design: Is the coil designed with a central core?
Inventory Management: How many product codes (SKUs) are there for roll size and weight? How often do these codes change?
Packaging: Is the roll protected by packaging material?
Quality control requirements: Does the surface quality of the roll directly impact the quality of the finished product?

Common Methods of Handling and Storing Circular Goods and Raw Materials Today

Method 1: AS/RS Warehousing With Pallets and Trays

The best solution is to use pallets. When a tubular package is placed on a standard pallet with the curved side facing down, rolling will occur. To overcome this situation, the use of specialized pallets equipped with tilt stops is common. In addition, other options can be considered such as placing round cylindrical packages on regular wooden pallets and securing them with straps, stacking flat-bottomed packages such as drums in an upright position on pallets, or using box pallets for long and thin packages such as carpets.

Method 2: The AS/RS automated warehouse system is designed to handle horizontally rolled goods and materials.

Rolled material is positioned horizontally during transport and storage, supported directly by its curved surface. The natural rolling nature of the material requires curved surface supports to control the movement at each stage of the automated system. This method is popular in printing and paper mills that handle large rolls of paper, due to the advantages in stability, load bearing capacity and packing characteristics.

Method 3: The AS/RS automated warehouse system is designed to handle vertically rolled goods and materials.

If you find that using method two does not meet the requirements of the material roll? In this case, a possible solution is to rotate the roll 90 degrees and place them in a vertical position. Instead of using the proposed method of inventory management, utilizing the shaft, bar or discs mentioned above can fully support the storage and transportation process, thereby facilitating the handling of goods without the use of pallets.
